The Long Game

The Long Game

The Long Game is a youth-led intervention to reduce young people’s risk of exposure to child criminal exploitation, county lines, and modern slavery.

The project was created by Adam Elliott during his strategy internship with Leaders Unlocked, and is based on his lived experience of being exploited through county lines.

How it works

The Long Game uses a youth-led, discussion-based, workshop format to deliver impactful education sessions to young people in schools and alternative education settings. The project also delivers training for professionals working with young people.

The Long Game educates audiences on the following important topics:

  • Modern slavery
  • Key terminology, including ‘Clean skin’ individuals (those not known to services and with no criminal record), or ‘BIC’ (a ‘disposable’ person)
  • What county lines, organised crime gangs, and drug trafficking are
  • How to spot the signs that you are being groomed and how instant gratification is used
  • Debt Bondage
  • How to escape the system
  • How to embrace long term planning and delayed gratification

Why

The Long Game is important because schools, teachers, and parents are currently ill-equipped to protect children from exploitation. There is a lack of practical relevant training for professionals working with young people. Organised crime gangs use constantly evolving, sophisticated techniques to groom young people, which current school or authority practices may not be up to date with.
